Mentoring

Page history last edited by Berta 15 years, 5 months ago

This page is to provide help for presenters, including hooking you up with an expert user of your synchronous presentation interface. Typically, your mentor will attend your presentation and may help in managing the text chat if you are doing voice/video, and/or help resolve problems with the interface for you and participants. See also the links to HELP files and videos below.

Hi folks, Vance here on May 17, 2009.  We've decided it would be best if Mentors would moderate the sessions they are mentoring and as this would include moderating the session (of finding a moderator) the moderator's name should be written in the left hand column just below the time.  These instructions are indicated on the schedule for each day; e.g. http://wiaoc09.pbworks.com/May22.

People have been looking for the help links.  I'll keep in mind that they are here and see if we can make them more obvious somewhere. - Vance

I will be available to mentor presenters and/ or moderators on how to use WiZiQ.

Just an idea, but the ning has a live chat feature. We could use that to direct participants to the sessions etc. I volunteer to help.

Is Dimdim one of the possible venues for WIAOC? If so is there a room I could use which allows more than 20 participants? You never know:)

I came way to late to this wiki and the mentoring page, but I would appreciate someone within my time zone to help/back me up during my session (Sunday 24 at 22:00 GMT). Thanks a zillion and sorry, sorry, sorry about this very late call for help ;-)

Can anyone in Europe give me a hand?

In preparation for my presentation on May 24 at 15:00 GMT, Aiden has offered to be my sidekick, since this is the first time I'm presenting in

Elluminate, and I'm still having tech problems just trying to upload my PPT.

Thank you Aiden! and Thank you Rita for trying to help me before I went on filming vacation in the USA.

I just want to ask a tech question here, since I've already spent so much time on this and I hate to give up:
After writing to the tech people at Elluminate, showing them the error message I get, they sent me a message explaining how to upload single

images of each slide, but this workaround is very messy. Whether I choose gif, jpg, or png, the text part of each slide is hardly legible.

I'm running an old MS Office (Office XP, also called Office 2002) in Vista, with Firefox 3. Since I have no intention of updating the

expensive MS Office, I installed Open Office, which, according to Elluminate help file, is compatible, and supposedly it is possible to upload a

presentation in the native Open Office "OPD" presentation format. Alas, the format is simply not accepted (not supported as a "readable" file),

at least not on this computer. Is that because I also have MS Office installed, creating a conflict, or is it more likely due to another reason?

I went through the same process in IE 7 with the same result.

The subject of this post is "Can anyone in Europe give me a hand?" since I might be keeping Aiden up too late since she is in a very different time zone as you all know. But I will need a sidekick, especially to upload my PPT for me just before 15:00 GMT. Aiden has tested on her end, and she has succeeded in uploading it as a test (I first thought there was something wrong with my PPT).

Thanks in advance to anyone available in my general time zone.

Anne, I just received a message that dimdim is no longer free.

I've decided to go with Elluminate anyway. But onthe Dimdimwebsite it still says free for 20 forever.
