Webheads Convergence 2009 (May 22-24)

When you finish each item, you can either cross out the item by using the "strikethrough" button in the editor's toolbar, or use something like "DONE" to designate a completed task.

Immediate To Dos

  • Logo for the Convergence (logo studies, click here, Aiden)
  • Setting the Date
  • Talking to Jeff about Drupal (meanwhile, Vance set up a Ning)
  • Deciding on Keynote  speakers(committee to be formed - this is one task that needs to be considered carefully

Vance's rationale in choosing keynote speakers from people who don't normally interact in the Webheads community:

    • New faces bring new voices in to speak to us as well as getting ourselves better known by communities and networks to which our keynote speakers belong.
    • There are so many  in webheads qualified to give keynotes that I would hate to have anyone felt left out as we would have to inevitably pass over 90% of our best people, and this might cause some disruption in the community.
    • Webheads interact with each other almost daily as a matter of course.  It is of limited added value to the community to get them to then give us a keynote, whereas a keynote presentation from someone outside the community adds great value.
    • Finally Webheads will contribute by making those presentations at the conference whether or not they are invited to be keynote speakers, so hopefully we will have contributions from a wide spectrum of people
  • Deciding on kinds of proposals. How would that work for an unconference?

Some ideas at http://mobilizethis.wikispaces.com/2008_Presenters_Guidelines

I think we need to give examples of types of presentations. The MobilizeThis site does this at its Themes page: http://mobilizethis.wikispaces.com/2008_Themes       D. Oliver 25-09-08

The above link says "Second Life Educators are invited to share their projects, success stories and research." This is a good guideline: informative but not overly limiting (as, for example, limiting types of presentations to demonstrations, workshops, and discussions would be).

  • Create Call for Presentations (CfP), set date for posting and publicizing it.   D. O. 25-09-08

To Dos

Taking off from this earlier list, I see COACHING as a topic I can work on before the convergence. I have set up a Mentoring page where we can add instructions, link help files and volunteer/presenter hookups to. I can manage this page until mid-May, but I leave for a week of travel and will not be able to participate in WiAOC09 because I am going to my 45th college reunion. --EHS - 5 APR 09

Coaching Related to HELP but directed at presenters, the coaching team assigns mentors on an individual basis to presenters who request help in finding the best way to make their presentations

We need someone to MANAGE this area, and to set up a wiki where presenters can request help and volunteers can put themselves down to help them.
