I'll be happy to help with any of the behind-the-scenes work for WiA's 2009 "converging-diverging online unconference"—

vetting, proofreading, contacting possible speakers, whatever.

I think this is a great team to star with, Dennis. I'm hoping other Webheads will join us!

hahaha. The Tag it button I just created in Picnik. Fun! I guess it makes people more aware of it. I didn't even ask if that would be our tag, but it just seems to be the natural one, right?

Hi guys, now that I'm in should I add my name above, or is there a list for helpers elsewhere? What's our protocol for this ;-)

Dear Aiden, you should just add your name to the Organizing Team. Welcome Barbi. You can already edit the wiki.

Glad to be back here for our third WIAOC. Time flies!!! I have been thinking about having, as part of the WIAOC, different rounds of Second Life tours. What do you think?

Perhaps I could also help with the SL side. I am always feeling so guilty for not using the skills I learned through Language Lab!

Daf, Graham, Anne. If you need any help in SL, let me though - though I'm still in need of help sometimes myself!

Don't know where to put this - a suggestion for a speaker - someone from:

Working on a presentation I came again across Australian Flexible Teaching Framework, a project with people doing excellent work in, amongst other things, the use of SL - not just for languages.

You can find a page at:

http://www.flexiblelearning.net.au/flx/go/home/projects/2006/newpractices2006/pid/368

A speaker from there would be excellent for WIAOC, I would have thought.

Dennis.

Hi Folks, thanks for all the support. I'm still here and I have no doubt this event will take place. I'm being forced to take another short holiday into mid January but on return and as we swing into EVO we can be organizing this event as well. See you then!

How are the WIAOC09 plans progressing - any other palces to check the call for proposals etc? I am afraid i'm not up to date with Webheads Yahoo group mail these days- but I would love to propose something around SL as I'm taking part in the MUVEnation course and we have a group that would love to make something together.

Hi Sus, thanks for your comment. We do need to put out calls for proposals. We could probably use something similar to last year. I just started a Ning at http://webheadsinaction.ning.com/ . We also have http://webheadsinaction.org. First order of action (was to finish EVO, now that's done ..) is to round up some plenary speakers. Shall we shoot for mid march for a CfP?

I'm asking the same question Sus asked, how are things going here? I haven't heard any updates.

Hi folks, sorry about being quiet. First there was EVO, 6 weeks time warp where did it go. For some reason December to March was holiday season where I work and I made three trips overseas but I'm back now stuck in my seat now till June. Just now there is TESOL. We are working now on plenary speakers. We have 4 sessions accepted and we are about to send out our last round of invitations. Six people were on that committee but not all have actively responded. We are balancing inclusion here vs. confidentiality (can't air our deliberatons publicly) plus getting things DONE in a timely manner, and tipping over the edge toward the latter. We could probably refine that process better but in any event we will end up with a GOOD list of speakers. We need to schedule them and next step will be to invite proposals. This will be done unconference style. I'm in the middle of marking papers now but will try and catch up here as I get moments AND all are very WELCOME to help. Help is GOOOOOOD!!

Although I am very honoured to see that my name has been added to the possible Keynote Speakers following the meeting in TI on 20 September (sorry I wasn't there), I DO agree that we need people from outside and I would like to see names we are not familiar with. I would like to see names from India, Africa, China .... I'll be in TI on Sunday :-)

I completely agree with Vance that keynote speakers should be from outside the Webheads community and I completely agree with Moira about names from India, Africa, China, and other places—such as Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and Scandinavia. If any of these speakers presented in less commonly understood languages (e.g., Gujarati, Arabic, Mandarin, Romanian, Slovene, Danish), I'm confident that simultaneous translators could be found among the Webheads.

On a different tack, there has for some time been an active Web presence in Cataluña. Are there possible Catalan keynoters (presenting in Català or Spanish)?

What's the update on the keynote speakers?

Hi Aiden. Thanks for your many offers to help with this event. Here's the current status on acceptances, March 18, 2009: Alec Couros, David Warlick, and Nancy White have accepted. Kim Cofino and Jeff Utecht have accepted to make a joint presentation. I'd rather not announce this formally yet, until we've had time to round out our list of keynote speakers.

We got organized on this during Tapped In chats. We realized early on that we could not deliberate our choices publicly so we moved the discussion that started here to a Google Doc and invited people at that time to register at the doc if they wanted to help out. We then took feedback on speakers at the doc and about a month ago I asked those who had registered on that committee to send their shortlists. Not all did so but this streamlined our work and those actively involved are inviting all those who have received at least a 'seconded' from a committee member to give us keynote talks.

When that process is complete we will announce the keynote speakers at http://wiaoc.org and our Ning site, and we'll put out a CfP and encourage presenters to sign up for spaces on our calendar.

If anyone wants to join us in any of these processes please write me and let me know what you'd like to do, and I'll arrange it where you can pitch in.

Hi organizing committee!
Great to see you all together.
I had a limited access to the net recently 'cos my system was dead. All is well now, just recovering from all the lost links after that.
I am not in the organizing committee, but will participate at the event. I am not sure what should I do though to be more active. ;-)

Warmly,
Nina
